In most tertiary institutions, the available facilities are no enough to house half the students in the school, and even when enough facilities are available, they are always in a poor, mismanaged state.
For this article, We would be using the Univeristy of Lagos,UNILAG, for our case study.
The University of Lagos, which was Established in 1962 has been one of the best in the nation, and definitely one of the best in West Africa, as it fondly refered to as the "University of First choice and pride of the nation" amongst its students and staff.
However, as prestigious and successful as the institution has been, it also suffers from this issue of unkept hostel facilities as seen in images below.

Many of the school's hostel Halls are named after historical figures, Such as Queen Amina of Zaria, Proffessor Eni Njoku( the first vice Chancellor of the school), Madam Efunroye Tinubu and many more, however the state of this halls do not befit the the great men and women they are named after.
The question that comes to mind of seeing this hostels is, who is to be blamed? Did the government not provide such a prestigious school the funds needed to maintain these facilities , or did the School not put the provided funds into good use, or perhaps is it the students that are highly destructive and as such frustrate the efforts of the schools to make the facilities conducive?
These are questions that we hope would soon be answered with solutions not just in UNILAG, but in all tertiary institutions nation wide, as it is not enough to be academically sound in our schools, we also need to be able to boast of standard, world class facilities in our institutions.
